Snowfall total inching up
Updated: January 27, 2012, 11:03 AM
Big, fat, sloppy snowflakes fell across Buffalo this morning as the overnight rain made a dramatic changeover to snow.
"It's the backside of a low pressure system that brought us close to an inch of rain," explained Bill Hibbert, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
About an inch of snow is expected to fall through midday, possibly followed by a couple of light snow showers, he said.
"It'll probably be ending by the time folks are heading home," Hibbert said.
Temperatures started at about 40 today but will be falling through the day into the low to mid-30s.
On Saturday, there may be some more snow accompanied by gusty winds.
"The high will be right close to 40 but with that wind chill, it won't feel like it," he said.
This morning's snow may help Buffalo reach the 20-inch snow fall mark this season. Before this snow event, the metro region had seen just 18.8 inches. "The normal should be 57.9 inches," Hibbert said. Last year this time, he added, "we had 61.8 inches of snow."
