The United States Under-17 Select Team captured the Five Nations Cup on Sunday in Trnava, Slovakia, with a 3-1 triumph over Slovakia.

Team USA went 4-0 in the tournament used as an evaluation tool by USA Hockey and outscored its tournament foes, 24-6. Clarence’s Nicholas Vilardo was a member of the U.S. team, serving as the backup goalie.

Vilardo, 16, did see action in two games during the tournament, playing a total of 54 minutes, 16 seconds and stopping 8-of-9 shots. Vilardo played last season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and backstopped the Junior Knights to a USA Hockey Under-14 Tier I national championship.

The annual tournament also included teams from Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
