The Western New York Flash has lost their goaltender for the season.
Lydia Williams suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscal tear in her left during Saturday’s loss to the Washington Spirit.
“We are of course devastated that this happened to Lydia, especially after she has really come into her own and done so well for the club in the last month,” Flash general manager and coach Aaran Lines said. “We wish her a healthy and timely return before next summer’s World Cup. We’ll miss her both on and off the field.”
Williams was injured while catching a corner kick about 11 minutes into the game. She landed awkwardly, and was replaced by Kelsey Wys.
Williams is the second goaltender to see her season end due to a knee injury. Adrianna Franch was hurt in training camp.
