Three UB track and field athletes have qualified for the United States Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships. The event will start today on the University of Oregon campus and concludes Sunday.
Freshmen Corinne Birchard, Christine Lyttle and Alec Peinkofer each qualified for one event in the competition.
Peinkofer will be a part of the 15-person men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase field. He ranks fourth in the field with a time of 9:03.45, which he achieved at MAC Outdoor Championships.
Birchard qualified for the women’s 1,500-meter run after running a 4:33.84 at MAC Outdoor Championships. Lyttle qualified for the women’s 1,500 hurdles with a career-best time of 14.05 at MAC Outdoor Championships.
The event features the best track and field athletes under the age of 20 in America . Top finishers will have a chance to join the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championship American team.
