Five area wrestlers are among the 19-man recruiting class signed by University at Buffalo.

Danny Graham (West Seneca East), Ryan Kromer (Lewiston-Porter), Rocco Russo (Frontier), Alex Smythe (Eden) and Jake Weber (Clarence) are among a recruiting class that includes three-time All-American Kyle Akins of Sycamore, Ill. Weber is a two-time All-American.

Graham (154), Smythe (227), Russo (unavailable) and Weber (182) head into the college ranks holding the career wins record at their respective schools, while Kromer set a Lew-Port record for wins in a single-season (51).

Others who officially joined the UB wrestling team include Justin Cooksey (Wantagh), Colt Cotten (Benton, Pa.), Jason Estevez (Livingston, N.J.), Jake Gunning (Bethlehem, Pa.), Trevor Hoffmier (Newark Valley), Derek Holcomb (Newark Valley), Ian James (Rochester), Skylar Kropman (Penfield), Bryan Lantry (Walworth), Brandon Lapi (Amsterdam), Sean Peacock (Clifton Springs), Brett Perry (Ontario Center), Blake Retell (Albany), Daniel Smith (Adams).

“These guys are exactly what we need as we continue to build our program,” UB coach John Stutzman said. “We want to win MAC Championships and produce All-American student-athletes on and off the mat.”
