Buffalo New Era Muny Champion U Diesel opened play in the 100th NABF World Series on Thursday with a 3-2 win in nine innings over the Windsor (Ont.) Stars in round-robin play at CO Brown Stadium in Battle Creek, Mich.

BJ Stack (Iroquois) hit an RBI double to tie the game and then scored the winning run on a Neal DeMartin (Grand Island) line-drive single.

Kevin Hughes (University at Buffalo) struck out 11 to earn the complete-game win. Randy Moley (St. Bonaventure) had three hits.

The U Diesel faces Louisville today at noon and then finish pool play against New Jersey’s Clifton Kings at 7 p.m. today.
