Three seeded players advanced to the second round and No. 4 Facundo Mena of Argentina fell by the wayside Tuesday as play in the main draw began Tuesday in the $10,000 Sargent & Collins LLP Men’s Futures Tournament at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville.
Marcus Fugate of the U.S. ousted Mena in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Advancing were No. 5 Luke Bambridge of Great Britain over Jorge Montero of Chile, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4); No. 6 Pavel Krainik of Canada over Gustavo Guerses of Brazil, 6-2, 6-2, and No. 7 J. Aubone of the U.S. over fellow American Mark Oljaca, 6-4, 6-2.
No. 1 seed Liam Broady and No. 2 Ashley Hewitt, both of Great Britain, play their first round matches today at 11 a.m. Seven first round singles were played Tuesday with nine more on the slate for today. Admission to the tournament is free.
In doubles, top seeded Bambridge and Broady moved on with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Kevin Mario Gandini and Eugenio Gaston Gastien of Argentina.
