Thomas moves to Patriots -  3/4/2007
Adalius Thomas signed with New England on Saturday, giving the Patriots one of this season's top free agents and a versatile pass-rushing outside linebacker who can do for the team what Willie McGinest once did.

Clements, Fletcher shown the money -  3/3/2007
Former Buffalo Bills Nate Clements and London Fletcher found new homes on Friday. Clements, the star cornerback, agreed to an eight-year, $80 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. The six-year veteran was considered one of the top prizes in free agency and the 49ers rewarded him with the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history.

Cowboys cut Bledsoe -  3/2/2007
As expected, the Dallas Cowboys cut Drew Bledsoe on Thursday. Bledsoe, 35, who lost his quarterback job to Tony Romo after six turnover- and sack-plagued starts last season, was one of a number of aging players cut as teams adjusted their rosters to get more salary cap room for the free agent period that begins Friday. He is expected to be invited back to the Cowboys, although he is sure to be a backup at a reduced salary.

Upshaw gets call from NFL -  3/1/2007
INDIANAPOLIS - Chad Upshaw is one of 17 tight ends attending the NFL Scouting Combine, but he's among the least known. About the only tidbit of information reporters knew about him was he's a second cousin of Hall of Fame offensive lineman Gene Upshaw.

Smith gets extension -  3/1/2007
The Chicago Bears signed coach Lovie Smith to a four-year contract extension through the 2011 season Wednesday night. The Bears also signed General Manager Jerry Angelo to a contract extension through the 2013 season. The team will hold a news conference today.

Moulds, Lewis among cuts -  3/1/2007
The Houston Texans released wide receiver Eric Moulds after one season. Moulds had 57 catches for 557 yards last season after joining Houston in a trade with Buffalo. The 33-year-old Moulds, who spent 10 years with the Bills, has 732 catches for 9,653 yards and 49 touchdowns in his career.

Zubrus should feel less pressure -  2/28/2007
TORONTO - One of the four players the Buffalo Sabres acquired Tuesday has never played a minor-league game, jumping right to the NHL as an 18-year-old. Two of the others will be playing in the minors tonight, and they may stay there for the rest of the season.

Favre has ankle surgery -  2/27/2007
Packers quarterback Brett Favre had minor ankle surgery and is expected to recover in time for offseason workouts. Favre, who plans to return for his 17th NFL season, has been bothered for several years by a buildup of bone spurs in his left ankle. He kept putting off the procedure, and skipped out on a previously scheduled surgery Jan. 1.

ST. LOUIS - Damien Nash had just come home from a charity basketball game he'd organized in his brother's honor when he collapsed in front of his wife and 7-month-old girl.

Bears should show more love, and money, for Lovie -  2/25/2007
INDIANAPOLIS - Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith would have preferred to talk about college prospects and the upcoming draft. Instead, the focus of the 150-plus reporters surrounding him at the NFL Scouting Combine was on his contract situation.

Broncos' running back dies after hoop game -  2/25/2007
DENVER - Broncos running back Damien Nash collapsed and died after a charity basketball game in suburban St. Louis, less than two months after the slaying of teammate Darrent Williams.

Quinn talking up his draft stock -  2/24/2007
INDIANAPOLIS - He's the most prolific passer in Notre Dame history and played for renowned offensive guru Charlie Weis. Yet few players attending the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend have as much to prove as quarterback Brady Quinn.

Tomlinson's father killed -  2/24/2007
WACO, Texas - The father of NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson was killed Friday when the pickup truck in which he was riding blew a tire and flipped on a highway.

Winslow's surgery extensive -  2/23/2007
Kellen Winslow has to make another comeback. The Browns' talented tight end underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee last month, a more extensive procedure than was initially revealed. That will mean a longer recovery.
