Owens tops Bills' injury list
Bills receiver Terrell Owens sat out Wednesday's practice due to a sore hip.
Owens was among a bunch of key veterans who are dealing with injuries this week.
The availability of linebacker Keith Ellison doesn't look good. He sat out with a sore quadriceps muscle and was replaced in the starting lineup at practice by safety Bryan Scott.
Defensive tackle Kyle Williams (knee) and cornerback Terrence McGee (knee) are expected to be out. Defensive end Aaron Schobel (groin) and safety Donte Whitner (ankle) both are questionable. Schobel didn't practice. Whitner was limited.
Here's what coach Dick Jauron said about Owens: "He practiced on Monday and it wasn't bothering him. He said it didn't bother him at all. He came in after practice, he got his normal treatment that he gets. Then on Tuesday, late in the afternoon yesterday, all of a sudden it really started to bother him. So he came in immediately, got treatment for it, came back this morning and was in meetings but it was very uncomfortable for him. So right now it's pretty uncomfortable. We're kind of hoping it goes away as quickly as it came. That's our hope. We really won't know any more until we see how he feels tomorrow."
Safety Jairus Byrd was limited due to a sore groin but said he will be ready to play and it's something he expects to deal with the rest of the season.
"I am feeling pretty good," Byrd said. "I was limited today, but it is to be as good as expected at this point in the season. I just have to move forward and gut it out. It is as good as it can get at this point."
Fullback Corey McIntyre (knee) and tackle Jamon Meredith (knee) both were limited.
Not practicing for Tennessee were cornerback Cortland Finnegan (hamstring), receiver Justin Gage (back), tackle David Stewart (hip), and running backs LenDale White (illness) and Javon Ringer (back).
The Bills activated receiver James Hardy (physically unable to perform list) to the 53-man roster and waived running back Xavier Omon to make room. Omon, a sixth-round draft pick in 2008, had not played in four of the last five games.
Jauron said he's sticking with Fred Jackson on returns. Jackson has looked good on returns the past three games. Nevertheless, Roscoe Parrish is the reigning punt-return champ in the NFL the previous two seasons. Is there still a place for Parrish on returns or on the team?
Said Jauron: "Well definitely on the team, there's no doubt about that. I think we'll just stay where we've been, where we'll go week to week making the decision on Roscoe, whether he's active or not. Obviously we're very happy with Fred and what he's done in the return game. Yeah, but there's definitely a place for Roscoe on our football team."
