Softball
• Krstin Kill went 4 for 4 and drove in two runs to help pace Niagara to an 8-1 win over the University at Buffalo.
The Bulls (21-21) took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Erin Zilka in the first inning, but the Purple Eagles scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good.
Kayla Hines also drove in two runs for Niagara (19-15), which defeated UB for the third time this season.
Men’s lacrosse
• Medaille earned a spot in the North East Athletic Conference title game with a 10-9 win over Cazenovia. Senior David Bennett scored with 13 seconds left in regulation to give the Mavericks the win. Bennett finished with three goals and two assists.
Medaille (5-7, 3-1 NEAC) has three regular-season road games left before meeting Keuka in the conference championship May 2.
Baseball
• UB snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over Niagara. Tied, 4-4, the Bulls took a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth off an RBI single by Brad Agustin. Buffalo (15-23) added another run in the seventh off an RBI double by Kevin McCall. McCall and Agustin each went 2 for 4 while Adam Skonieczki went 3 for 5.
The Purple Eagles fell to 15-23.
• Freshman Benson Merritt earned his first collegiate win as Canisius defeated Le Moyne, 10-1. Merritt retired the first eight batters and gave up just one hit with three walks and four strikeouts in six innings.
Branson Joseph had five RBIs on three hits for the Golden Griffins (22-17), who have won 10 of their last 13 games.
• St. Bonaventure picked up a pair of wins over Bucknell on the strength of the bat of Kyle Gorby. The junior left fielder went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in a 6-3 opening win. In the 12-2 nightcap, he went 3 for 5 with two doubles while driving in four runs for the Bonnies (18-15).
Track and field
• UB junior Brian Smith (Nichols) earned Mid-American Conference Athlete of the Week honors. Smith broke his own record in the 200 meters at Saturday’s UB Invitational with a time of 21.13 seconds.
He ran the anchor leg of the 400-meter relay, which set a school record in 40.65, while also running a leg of the winning 1,600-meter relay.
