Bills' Edwards to sit out Sunday against Colts
Buffalo Bills starting quarterback Trent Edwards will sit out Sunday's preseason game in Indianapolis.
Bills coach Dick Jauron announced the decision today. Edwards is recovering from a deep bruise in his right thigh, just above the knee, that he suffered on Tuesday evening.
"We're going to be pretty cautious in terms of trying to get me back to 100 percent for the last preseason game and not take any risks," Edwards said after today's team workout at Ralph Wilson Stadium. "It's making minimal progress, day to day. But it's progressing, which is positive. Still it's not where it needs to be right now. But I feel we're going in the right direction."
J.P. Losman will start in Edwards' place and is expected to play at least the entire first half.
Edwards' absence is a disappointment for the Bills, because the third exhibition game of the summer typically is the most extended tune-up for starting players.
"There are valuable reps out there for me to take advantage of, but at this point it's out of my control," Edwards said. "So I'll just take it all in and get better the best way I can without getting the reps and get ready for the Lions game."
The Bills' final preseason game against Detroit is on Thursday.
Jauron said he also will hold out two other key offensive players due to injury … receivers James Hardy and Roscoe Parrish. Hardy has a sore hamstring, Parrish a sore knee.
