Time for the Sabres to make some moves

The Sabres’ future is at hand in the next two or three years. It took Pittsburgh four or five years of drafting high to build an annual playoff/Stanley Cup contender. Fleury, Malkin, Crosby, Staal, Letang, Orpik, Strait – all picks which have formed their core, which is still strong.

Today the drafting of the premiere players will determine our future. That being said, I’d try to trade Myers and Ehrhoff to Florida, Detroit or Dallas. I’d ask for Florida’s first 2014 and 2016 picks for Myers. I’d trade Ehrhoff to Detroit for their first 2014 pick, second 2015 pick and Tomas Tatar. If these were done, I’d draft Ekblad, Bennett or Draisatl, then Perlini. If no trades, I’d take Bennett or Draisaitl, Vrana at 39, Karlsson at 49, Jacobs or Demko at 61, Audette or Mistele at 121, Forgeler at 151, and Nogier at 181.

In free agency I’d re-sign Ott, Moulson and Stralman. You have to have some solid veterans to lead the kids over the next two or three years. But we still want to be in the hunt next year in the McDavid/Eichel draft.

The future has already begun with our last two drafts. Keep it going.
