Paul Schaus of Buffalo was among the scorers for the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team on Saturday, which opened the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, with a 5-1 triumph over Italy in Shayba Arena.

Schaus knocked in a rebound for Team USA’s fifth goal of the game. Brody Roybal scored twice, while Declan Farmer had a goal and an assist. Josh Sweeney also scored and Nikko Landeros had three assists.

Team USA returned to action this morning, facing South Korea. The Americans then face Russia at 8:30 a.m. Sochi time on Tuesday.
