New Jersey 3, Montreal 1: Martin Brodeur tied Patrick Roy’s NHL career record of 551 wins, making 22 saves back home in Montreal against Roy’s former team, with the Hockey Hall of Famer looking on from a suite.

Boston 2, N. Y. Islanders 1: Phil Kessel scored his 30th goal in the first period and set up Marc Savard’s first in 16 games 65 seconds later for the Bruins. Kessel became Boston’s first 30-goal scorer since teammate Patrice Bergeron had 31 in the 2005-06 season.

Philadelphia 4, N. Y. Rangers 2: Arron Asham scored two goals, Martin Biron made 39 saves and the Flyers won for the third time in four games. The Rangers are 4-3-1 since John Tortorella replaced fired coach Tom Renney.

Detroit 5, St. Louis 2: Pavel Datsyuk scored twice in the second period and the Red Wings netted three goals on three shots within 46 seconds.

Ottawa 4, Pittsburgh 3 (SO): Mike Comrie scored the deciding goal in the shootout and the Senators won for the fifth time in six games. They are now 11-6-3 under interim coach Cory Clouston.

Toronto 8, Calgary 6: Mikhail Grabovski scored two goals and the Maple Leafs beat the Flames for the 14th time in their last 15 meetings in Toronto. Olli Jokinen had five points for the Flames.

Washington 5, Carolina 4 (SO): Alex Ovechkin moved within one goal of becoming the first Capitals player with 50 in three seasons and netted the winner in the shootout.

Tampa Bay 4, Florida 3 (SO): Steven Stamkos scored the lone goal in the shootout for the Lightning and the Panthers dropped to 3-2-1 against Tampa Bay this season.

Dallas 3, Minnesota 2 (OT): Defenseman Nicklas Grossman scored with 2:37 left, and the Stars stretched their home winning streak over Minnesota to 10.

Los Angeles at San Jose: Sharks have averaged just 1.9 goals per game since Feb. 23 and have scored just one goal in three of their last five games.

Colorado at Edmonton: Avalanche may be struggling this season, but it’s 9-1 in shootouts and 2-0 in overtime this season.

Nashville at Phoenix: Predators begin four-game road trip with a 5-11-1 record away from home in their last 17 games.

AHL: Portland 6, Lowell 1: Mark Mancari and Nathan Gerbe scored twice each for the Pirates in a game that was played in Lewiston, Maine.
