Florida 6, Pittsburgh 1: Nathan Horton scored twice and the Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak while handing the Penguins their fourth straight loss.

Calgary 3, Nashville 2: Todd Bertuzzi scored with 23.4 seconds left in regulation as the Flames posted their fifth straight win and the Predators lost their fourth straight.

Toronto 3, Ottawa 1: Alexei Ponikarovsky’s go-ahead goal midway through the third period was the winner for the Leafs. The Senators failed to win on the road for the 12th time in 13 games.

Washington 2, N. Y. Rangers 1: Alex Ovechkin scored the tiebreaking short-handed goal as the Capitals won season-high sixth straight.

Carolina 3, Tampa Bay 2: Joni Pitkanen and Justin Williams each had a goal and an assist, and the Carolina Hurricanes won for the seventh time in 10 games.

Detroit 3, Minnesota 2 (SO): Chris Osgood made 33 saves through overtime and then two big ones in the shootout in his first game since Dec. 15 for the Red Wings. St. Louis 5, Columbus 2: The Blues won for just the third time in 13 games and had four power-play goals and one short-handed goal.

Around the rinks

All-Star starters named: The Penguins’ Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were named Eastern Conference starters for the All-Star Game in Montreal later this month along with four Canadiens — Alex Kovalev, defensemen Andrei Markov and Mike Komisarek and goalie Carey Price. In the West, South Buffalo’s Patrick Kane was voted a starter by fans along with Chicago Blackhawks teammates Jonathan Toews and former Sabres defenseman Brian Campbell. Anaheim Ducks Ryan Getzlaf, defenseman Scott Neidermayer and goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere round out the West starters.

AHL: Norfolk 3, Portland 2: Mark Mancari and Marc-Andre Gragnani had the goals for the Pirates. Mathieu Darche saw his point streak end at six games.
