Linus Omark’s short career with the Buffalo Sabres is over.

The Sabres, who placed the forward on unconditional waivers Monday, terminated Omark’s contract Tuesday after no one claimed the 27-year-old. He is free to sign with a team in his Swedish homeland.

Omark stated his desire to head back overseas by failing to report to the Rochester Americans last week. The Sabres assigned him there after he put up no goals and two assists in 13 games.

The Sabres acquired Omark from Edmonton in December for a conditional sixth-round pick, but reports say the condition was Omark playing 15 games for Buffalo. Because he didn’t, the Sabres will reportedly retain the draft pick.
