Los Angeles 2, Carolina 1: Jeff Carter scored the shootout winner to lift the Kings. Dwight King also scored for the Kings while Jonathan Quick made 27 saves. Jeff Skinner had Carolina’s goal while Cam Ward stopped 36 shots.
Florida 6, Pittsburgh 3: Former Sabre Brad Boyes scored two goals, Tomas Fleischmann had a goal and three assists, and the Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak in their home opener.
Chicago 3, N.Y. Islanders 2: Michal Handzus scored the go-ahead goal 6:45 into the second period and the Blackhawks held on for the victory. Chicago’s Jonathan Toews and rookie Joakim Nordstrom connected in the first period. Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo scored for the Islanders (2-1-1), who lost their first game in regulation.
Dallas 4, Winnipeg 1: Tyler Seguin had two goals and two assists to lead the Stars past the Jets. Seguin came into the game with only one assist this season in the two games Dallas had played. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 NHL draft was traded to the Stars by Boston in July.
Calgary 3, New Jersey 2: The Devils remain winless through five games and had their three-game point streak snapped as Sean Monahan’s goal with 2:43 left in regulation snapped a 2-2 tie. Mark Giordano and Dennis Wideman each had one and one assist for Calgary, which hasn’t lost in regulation this season.
