N.Y. Islanders at N.Y. Rangers: The Rangers had gone 8-0-2 against the Islanders since Nov. 15, 2011, before a home loss to the Islanders last month. The Isles’ John Tavares has been held pointless in four straight against the Rangers.
Carolina at Philadelphia, ppd.: The game will be played today at 6 p.m. after heavy snow in Philadelphia forced the postponement. The Hurricanes are scheduled to play in Buffalo Thursday and their Friday home game with Ottawa was moved to Saturday.
Ottawa at Washington: The Capitals could be without Alex Ovechkin as they returned to Verizon Center following a 0-3-0 road trip in which they were outscored, 13-5. He’s considered a game-time decision with a lower-body injury.
Los Angeles at Columbus: After Saturday’s shootout win over Buffalo, the Blue Jackets were trying to extend their winning streak to a franchise-high seven games. The Kings are currently 1-1-1 on their five-game road trip.
Minnesota at Dallas: The Wild have won four of the past five meetings with the Stars, including both this season. However, the Wild fell 5-3 in the most recent game at Dallas last March 29. The Stars have lost nine of their last 10.
Toronto at Colorado: Semyon Varlamov has an 11-0-5 record with a 2.23 goals-against average over his last 16 starts, tying the Avalanche’s team record for most consecutive games without a regulation defeat.
Vancouver at Edmonton: Not only were the Canucks without coach John Tortorella, who was suspended for 15 days (six games) without pay for trying to get into Calgary’s locker room Saturday after an early line brawl, they were without captain Henrik Sedin, who suffered an undisclosed injury Saturday and saw his streak of 679 consecutive games played come to an end.
Winnipeg at Anaheim: The NHL-leading Ducks were trying to tie the 1978-79 New York Islanders for the second-longest home point streak to start a season at 23. Anaheim owns a 90-39 goal advantage at home.
