Lowdown: Donald enters the draft as the top, attacking defensive tackle available. He will play the 3-technique position, across from the outside shoulder of the guard, the spot Kyle Williams plays for Buffalo. Donald dominated his senior season. In addition to his sacks, he led the nation in tackles for loss (2.2 a game) and added 16 hurries and four forced fumbles. He was a one-man wrecker against Georgia Tech, Syracuse and Bowling Green. He excelled at the Senior Bowl, then he stood out at the scouting combine. He won the Nagurski Award as the nation’s top defensive player. The only mild concern is he’s a tad short, so if he doesn’t win with his initial move, he could get stuck on blocks. Donald draws comparisons with Bengals star Geno Atkins.
He said it: “I love the way he plays,” Donald said of Atkins. “I watched him a lot, watched him a lot my junior year in college. Explosive, fun to watch, he just makes a ton of plays. What he’s doing in the NFL is amazing, it’s an honor to even be compared to a guy like that.”
