A few slots are open for combat-injured veterans of any conflict (WWII to Afghanistan) to attend the annual Fishing with Heroes event slated for Friday to Sunday on Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake.

It’s an all-expense paid gathering that provides veterans with meals, lodging and fishing trips that include bait and even fish cleaning after outings. For registration and direction details, call Capt. Fred Forsythe at 560-9216.

Scholastic shooters sought

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF), based in Maumee, Ohio, offers many shooting programs for youths in elementary (age 12 in New York State), high school and college across the country.

Popular with New York State is the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) for boys and girls ages 14 to senior in high school. Youths join clay target teams that compete on the state level and may go on to SSSF competitions. The SSSF schedule includes a Junior Olympic Development Camp Aug. 14 to 18.

For details on organizing a club, county or federation youth clay target shooting program, check with national director Tom Wondrash at (262) 939-6664 or email twonderash@sssfdonline.com.
