Angelo Coniglio, one of the top advocates and historians of the American Football League, will speak at a lunch at noon Thursday at Chef's Restaurant, 291 Seneca St., Buffalo. Coniglio taught civil engineering at the University at Buffalo for 25 years. Cost for UB Alumni Association members is $14; nonmembers' cost is $16. Reservation deadline is Monday. Call 645-3312.

BASEBALL: Sports Performance Park in Eastern Hills Mall will be holding an advanced catching program starting Saturday and running through Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will have the opportunity to work with local Division I college coaches and athletes. The cost is $135. Call 565-2096. ... The WNY Warriors 13U Elite travel team is holding tryouts at 8 p.m. Nov. 14 and 21 at Sports Performance Park in Eastern Hills Mall. Call Jeff Helmbrecht at 830-9342.

BASKETBALL: The Buffalo Defenders will hold tryouts for their national and local 16U girls AAU teams from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sweet Home High School. Girls born on or after Jan. 1, 1993 or in the 11th grade and born on or after Jan. 1, 1992 are eligible to try out. Call Joe Dougherty at 982-1605 or John Reinholz at 796-4394.

HOCKEY: Skate Great Inc. is offering learn-to-skate classes at the East Aurora Time Warner Ice rink. Four-year-olds to adults are welcome. Sunday classes begin Nov. 15 from noon to 12:45 p.m. Skate rentals will be available at 580-3458.

SWIMMING: Fredonia State is conducting a one-day springboard diving clinic from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 14. It is open to divers of all ages and skill levels. Call John Crawford at 366-6723.
