A senior men’s team from Western New York has advanced to the United States Tennis Association League National Championships. The team, rated 3.5 and captained by Chuck Hunt, will represent the Eastern U. S. in a series of matches Oct. 23-25 at Indian Wells, Calif. Hunt’s team advanced by first winning the local league with a 9-1 record, then beating a team from Binghamton to win the WNY title, and then winning all five matches against other Eastern regional champs in Schenectady. The team consists of Hunt, Dave Aloi, Bill Anderson, Bill Carey, Scott Gorham, Dave Jentsch, Jim McDonald, Dan Pasquini and Phil Toohey.

The 7.0 super senior men’s tennis team from Buffalo (Village Glen) won all four of its matches with an 11-1 doubles mark last weekend at the Super Senior Sectional Championship at Flushing Meadows to earn a berth into the 16-team USTA National Championships in April in Arizona. The team consists of Chip Kubiniec (captain), Don Dehoff, John Eisner, Dennis Behr, Jim Kargen, Ron Krul, Sam Laduca, Jim Delellis and Dan Morelli.

The Buffalo Regals will host the Columbus Day Tier I Elite League Showcase Saturday-Monday at Holiday Twin Rinks in Cheektowaga. The 10-team hockey tournament for 18-under members of the league the Regals recently joined will include teams from Philadelphia, Boston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Colorado. The event is free and open to the public. Games on Saturday begin at 9 a. m. and run through 7 p. m. Sunday’s games run 9 a. m.-7 p. m. Monday’s games are 8 a. m.-noon.

ADULT DODGEBALL: The Epic Sports Center will hold leagues beginning Nov. 2. Registration deadline is Oct. 19. Call 565-3742.

ADULT IN-LINE HOCKEY: Leagues are forming at the Epic Sports Center, beginning Nov. 2. There will be divisions for Premier, Rec 1 and Rec 2. Registration deadline is Oct. 19. Call 565-3742.

SOCCER: Youth, adult men’s over 30, adult women’s and coed leagues will start play at Epic Sports Center on Nov. 2. Registration deadline is Oct. 19. Call 565-3742.

FLAG FOOTBALL: Leagues begin Nov. 2 at Epic Sports Center with a registration deadline of Oct. 19. All games will be held inside on turf and feature a three-man referee system. Call 565-3742.
