The New Era Diamond Girls Gold 16U Fastpitch Softball team went 9-2 in the ASA Eastern Nationals tournament in York, Pa. last week. After advancing to the championship game through the losers' bracket, the Diamond Girls fell in the championship game, 4-3, to the Tigerlillies of Ohio.
Members of the team included Nikki Attea, Caitlin Colucci, Michelle DelPrince, Ashley Fillmore, Yanava Hawkins, Courtney Kadish, Robin Kennery, Ashley McCormick, Jen Mikolajek, Kyle Plimpton and Taylor Swiatek. The team is coached by Larry Colucci, Mitch DelPrince and Chris Swiatek.

BASEBALL: West Seneca Youth Baseball is adding travel teams for the 2011 season at the 9U through 15U age groups. Tryouts will be held from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 16-27 at Centennial Park. Visit www.wsybaseball.org or contact Kevin Chodkowski at 863-0417 or at wsyba@wsybaseball.org.
BASKETBALL: The Buffalo Stampede will host an open tryout from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Daemen College. To pre-register, e-mail buffaloprohoops@yahoo.com. Day-of registrants should arrive by 10:30 a.m. There's a one-time fee of $50 to register for tryouts.
BOWLING: The 15th Annual Labor Day Marathon Tournament will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 6 at the Jamestown Bowling Company. The entry fee is $50 for the USBC certified event. Total pins plus handicap will determine the winner. Contact the the Jamestown Bowling Company (483-1818).
ROWING: The West Side Rowing Club will host an open house from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and open to ages 12 and up. Participants will have a chance to get a hands-on experience including learning basic rowing technique in the indoor rowing tanks and riding along in a rowing shell on the Black Rock Canal.
SOFTBALL: The Wheatfield Lady Hurricanes will have tryouts for the 2011 season for their 14U, 16U and 18U teams. Tryouts will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 and 18 and 9 a.m. Aug. 21 at Niagara-Wheatfield High School. Players must attend two tryouts. Visit www.ladyhurricanessoftball.com. ... Kenmore Travel Softball will have its 2011 tryouts from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 26 and Aug. 27 at the Lincoln Park Fields 1-4 at the corner of Parker and Decatur in Tonawanda. Registration is at 5:45 p.m. at Diamond No. 1 and for four teams -- 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U.
