Antoine Mason was granted permission to pursue options for his final year of NCAA eligibility, Niagara University announced Wednesday.

Mason graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Niagara earlier this month. He has one year of basketball eligibility left while pursuing a master’s degree.

The guard from Queens finishes his career at Monteagle Ridge as the program’s third all-time leading scorer with 1,934 points. That ranks 14th all-time in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

“I know Antoine enjoyed playing here, and I’m sure this was a difficult decision for him and his family,” Niagara men’s basketball coach Chris Casey said in a news release. “Antoine played a big role in our basketball program for the past four years, and we are proud that he earned his bachelor’s degree from Niagara University.

“Now is the time for us to move forward with players who are committed to continuing the tremendous legacy of the Niagara University Purple Eagles.”

Mason came to Niagara for the 2010-11 season as a freshman. He started three games but missed the rest of the season with a foot injury, taking a medical redshirt year.

In the 2012-13 season he became the third sophomore in program history to reach 1,000 points and earned National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District First Team honors.
