PITTSBURGH — Two days after seeing its nine-game unbeaten streak end in shocking fashion in Lewiston, Robert Morris denied Niagara a home-and-home sweep in the Atlantic Hockey Association weekend series between the two rivals by claiming a 5-0 triumph at 84 Lumber Arena.

Goalie Terry Shafer, who is from the Rochester suburb of Penfield, bounced back from giving up two third-period goals in Thursday’s 5-3 loss to the Purple Eagles by turning aside all 44 shots he faced Saturday.

Niagara almost outshot RMU (12-14-4, 12-7-4) by a two-to-one margin (44-23) but the Colonials cashed in on their opportunities to hand the Purple Eagles (10-16-4, 10-9-4) their 11th road loss of the season.

Scott Jacklin had a goal and an assist for RMU, while Zac Lynch, Brandon Denham, Colin Smith and Derek Friedman also scored during the victory.

Jackson Teichroeb gave up four goals on 22 shots to take the loss in goal for Niagara, which came into the game on a 5-1-1 run.

NU visits Mercyhurst on Friday night.
