Those attending the NCAA basketball tournament this week will have a better chance finding one of Buffalo’s food trucks for a meal or snack.

The trucks, which are typically restricted to where they can park downtown, will be allowed to operate in the vicinity of First Niagara Center.

Special permits will be issued to trucks as long as they don’t break the city’s rule that they cannot operate within 100 feet of an open kitchen.

Mayor Byron W. Brown wrote to Buffalo Place to make an exception for the tournament.

“Our food trucks add to the great Buffalo flavor that people have come to know in our city and we believe they will add to the positive experiences of our out-of-town visitors,” Brown said.

Team practices begin today, and the tournament begins Thursday.
