Area hoteliers say they’re ready.
“We are pretty much sold out for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We couldn’t have enough rooms. It’s been very good for business in a slower month,” said Robert Shankland, the general manager of Hotel @ the Lafayette.
Rooms at the Holiday Inn Buffalo on Delaware Avenue are sold out for a couple of the days. Judy Glatzhofer, general manager, said she has “no doubt there will be no rooms available as soon as the teams are announced.”
“We’re considering putting the staff in basketball jerseys from the teams that will be here,” Glatzhofer said.
Suburban hotels, too, should see an uptick in business, said Pete Harvey, director of sports development for the Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission.
More than 700 rooms were booked a year ago for participating teams, officials and NCAA staff, he said.
