Harris may be drafted by NBA's D-League
Paul Harris, the former Niagara Falls High School and Syracuse University swingman, is one of 200 prospects available for the NBA Development League Draft, which will be held at 7 tonight on NBA TV.
Players selected in Thursday's draft join a group of returning and allocated players in NBA D-League training camps later this month. The Albuquerque Thunderbirds have the first overall selection, while the Erie BayHawks will pick second. The Idaho Stampede, which picks 15th, has shown the most interest in Harris, according to Sal Constantino, Harris' former high school coach and mentor.
The D-League draft utilizes a "serpentine" format, meaning the order will alternate in each of the 10 rounds. The team picking last in the first round will select first in the second round, giving them the 16th and 17th overall choices.
Harris averaged 12.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game as a junior at Syracuse and posted 28 career double-doubles. After the 2008-09 season, Harris declared himself eligible for the 2009 NBA draft but was not drafted.
He played alongside former Niagara Falls and Syracuse teammate Jonny Flynn as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves' summer league team but was not offered a spot on the Timberwolves' preseason roster. The Utah Jazz invited Harris to attend their preseason training camp but he suffered a sprained ankle the week before camp began and didn't heal in time to participate. He was waived by the Jazz late last month.
