ERIE, Pa. — Zac Frischmon scored twice in the third period, snapping a 2-2 tie, to give Mercyhurst a 4-2 triumph over Niagara in Atlantic Hockey Association play Tuesday night in the Mercyhurst Ice Arena.
Niagara (3-7-1, 3-2-1 AHA) had rallied twice to tie the game before Frischmon took over, scoring his third and fourth goals of the season.
Chris Lochner of NU scored in the first period to tie the game 28 seconds after Kyle Dutra had opened the scoring for the host Lakers at 8:09. Matthew Zay put Mercyhurst (4-6-1, 3-1-0 AHA) back in the lead at 10:18 of the first.
Niagara squared things again when Isaac Kohls scored on the power play after 56 seconds of the second period.
Frischmon broke the tie at 1:10 of the third and added another tally at 3:45.
Jackson Teichrob had 28 saves for Niagara. Jimmy Sarjeant had 27 stops for Mercyhurst.
Mike Conderman assisted on both Niagara goals and Muto had a helper on Kohls’ tally.
Niagara will return to the ice on Friday night against Michigan, the fifth-ranked team in the country, in Ann Arbor at 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s was the first of eight straight road games for the Purple Eagles. They play at Cornell next Tuesday. Closest game to home for Niagara before Jan. 10 will be against RIT in Rochester on Dec. 14.
