Sweet Home, Maple Grove romp to the state finals
Panthers roll past Corning West; Red Dragons dethrone D champs
Sweet Home and Maple Grove both romped to state semifinal victories at Paetec Park in downtown Rochester Friday evening.
Sweet Home rolled to its first state championship game with a 48-8 victory over Corning West in the Class A state semifinal.
In the first game of the weekend, Maple Grove rolled to a 49-14 romp over defending Class D state champion Walton. It ended Walton's 24-game win streak. Go to the Prep Talk blog to review live blogging of the semifinals all weekend long.
Two more Section VI football teams will try and advance to the state championships today at downtown Rochester's Paetec Park.
Saturday's lineup has Southwestern playing Elmira Notre Dame in the Class C semifinal at noon and Orchard Park trying to improve on last year's state semifinal loss when it takes on Binghamton at 6 p.m.
This weekend's winners will advance to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse for the state finals on Nov. 29-30.
Maple Grove (12-0) will play Saturday, Nov. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Carrier Dome. The Red Dragons will face Section VII (North Country) champion Moriah, which defeated Section I (Westchester area) champion Tuckahoe, 21-6, on Friday.
Sweet Home will play at 5 p.m. next Saturday at the Carrier Dome. The Panthers (12-0) will face the winner of Friday's semfinal between Section II (Albany area) champion Burnt Hills and Section IX champion Nyack.
