The Williamsville North girls basketball team advanced to the Class AA finals with a 51-49 victory over No. 2 seed Niagara Falls on Friday night.

Ericka Taplin led the third-seeded Spartans with a game-high 24 points and 16 rebounds. Katie Wolfe added 10 points while Clare Ahern finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Victoria Pryor scored 23 points for the Wolverines (17-3).

Will North advances to face Jamestown, which downed No. 4 Lockport, 64-47, in the other semifinal.

Chrisanna Green carried defending Class AA champion and top seed Jamestown into the final, scoring 24 of her game-high 27 points in the second half as the Red Raiders rallied from a six-point halftime deficit with the aid of a 29-10 third quarter. Peyton Butts added a career-high 21 points for Jamestown (18-2).

WRESTLING: Newfane senior Nate Martin and Lewiston-Porter junior Andrew Shomers advanced to today’s semifinals of the state tournament with wins Friday at Albany’s Times Union-Center, potentially setting up an all-Section VI championship in the 145-pound division. Martin meets Holland Patent’s Alex Herringshaw while Shomers faces freshman Jason Hoffman from Hadley-Luzerne/Lake George.

Other Section VI wrestlers who advanced to the semifinals include Dunkirk’s Tito Colom (113), Amherst’s Kellen Devlin (126), Pioneer’s Austin Acquardi (132), Fredonia’s Dakota Gardner (138), Lew-Port’s Ryan Kromer (152) and Clarence’s Jake Weber (170).
