Coming attractions

• One of the biggest regular season meetings in boys basketball has No. 1 small school East hosting No. 3 large school and defending Class A state public school champion McKinley at 6 p.m. Wednesday. McKinley has gone undefeated in winning the Yale Cup the last two seasons and has a 27-game win streak in league play. Its last loss was to Bennett (57-54 on Feb. 15, 2011) in its next-to-last game of the 2011 Yale Cup season. It went 14-0 to win the cup in 2012 and was 12-0 last season. East will visit McKinley in this year’s regular-season finale Feb. 13. … On a busy Friday, there is a key Monsignor Martin small school battle as No. 4 Nichols visits No. 6 Park at 6:30. At 7:30, No. 6 large school Williamsville North plays at No. 2 Clarence; Clarence won the teams’ first meeting.

• Saturday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Classic will again be hosted by City Honors and will include some key boys basketball matchups, with the marquee game pitting last year’s co-No. 1 large school champions against each other when current No. 1 Canisius plays McKinley at 2 p.m. The event starts with Hutch-Tech and St. Francis at 11 a.m., followed by East against No. 9 large school Sweet Home at 12:30 p.m.

• In girls basketball, there are a pair of key ECIC I games this week, including No. 3 large school Frontier at No. 2 Jamestown tonight at 7:30. At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, co-No. 10 Willliamsville North hosts a team that was just behind it in the poll in Orchard Park. … No. 1 Cardinal O’Hara hosts No. 7 Hamburg at 6 p.m. Thursday then heads to Erie, Pa., for the Martin Luther King Basketball Showcase where it will play Franklin, Pa., on Saturday and Erie’s McDowell on Sunday.

• Two of the top boys hockey teams in Division II of the Western New York Varsity Hockey Federation – Kenmore East and Williamsville East – meet Saturday at 1 p.m.

• Wrestling’s ECIC Championships will be held at Lake Shore on Friday and Saturday.
