How they got here: Williamsville North dethroned six-time defending champion and the state’s No. 1 team in Sweet Home, 21-12. Eastridge avenged its only loss of the regular season, a 38-8 loss at Victor, with a 19-16 win over Victor in the Section V final.

Pre-snap read: Eastridge nearly beat Sweet Home in last year’s regionals before the Panthers came back from a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter and win in overtime on its way to the state championship game. The Lancers lost most of its team last year but won another title behind a big-play offense and senior quarterback Jametrius Lewis, a transfer from Waterloo who was the championship game MVP after throwing a touchdown along with a 104-yard rushing performance. Lewis is 51-98 for 954 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season. He also has 970 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 129 carries. Will North wasn’t expected to be here, but it’s win over Sweet Home was a performance that, if repeated, can lead them to a few more weeks of football.

What’s next: The winner will return to Sahlen’s next Friday at 8 p.m. for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association semifinals and a chance to advance to the championships at 3 p.m. Nov. 29 at Syracuse’s Carrier Dome. The opponent will come from tonight’s 7 p.m. Central Regional between Section III (Syracuse area) champion Carthage (9-1, No. 16 in state poll) and Section IV (Binghamton area) champion Union-Endicott (7-3, No. 18) at Vestal H.S.
