Howard Washington of the Canisius High School basketball team will not return for his junior year, according to Rivals.com and HoopsHype.com. It was reported on Friday night that the highly recruited 6-foot-2 point guard is transferring to Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla.
Washington was the Monsignor Martin Association’s Co-Player of the Year, averaging 15 points and 5.5 assists per game. Even before the start of last season, Washington had received scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Boston College, Boston University, Canisius College, the University at Buffalo, Charlotte and Siena. He is considered a Top 50 national recruit from the Class of 2016.
Crusaders coach Kyle Husband did not return a late call from The News. Canisius finished the season as the No. 2 large school in Western New York with a 23-3 record.
