H.S. Extra: Lackawanna girls win by forfeit

Lackawanna was awarded a forfeit by game officials over Lake Shore, 2-0, in a
nonleague girls basketball game after Eagles coach Andrea Mungovan pulled her team off the
court with 2:03 left in the game.
"They pulled the girls off the court and said one of our girls did something to try and
hurt one of their girls," said Lackawanna coach Dave Oliveri. "But no foul was called and
there was a referee behind the play and one under the basket, and neither one saw it. They
said they wouldn't come back on the court if I let that girl come out."
Mungovan declined to comment.
Kayla Golden and Sharmayne Walton had 10 points each for Lackawanna before the game was
halted.
Genovese leads Williamsville North
Corrin Genovese had 28 points and four steals to lead Williamsville North (12-4,
9-3) to a 66-59 win over Hamburg in ECIC I girls basketball. Allie McPhee had 22 points
for Hamburg.
In the Niagara-Orleans League, Wilson, which had already clinched the championship,
extended its league record to 13-0 with a 49-25 triumph at Medina. Jessica Curry led
the Lakewomen with 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Paige Golden had 11 points and four assists and Baylee Hapeman added 10 points with nine
boards as Albion beat Newfane, 50-31, to move to 10-3 in N-O play. ... Aileen
Hinton had 21 points to lead Barker to a 39-34 win over CSAT. The game was the inaugural
Barker-CSAT Sportsmanship showcase. The teams plan on making the game an annual tradition
between the two schools, with a plaque awarded each year between team captains. This year,
Barker coach Jeff Costello and captains Lisa Hagen and Paige Remington me with CSAT coach
Nathan Monaco and captains Andrea Pierce and Kaylyn Billups.
In the Niagara Frontier League, Joelle Pollak and Jordyn Broas each scored 19 points for
Kenmore East in a 55-38 win at Lew-Port. The Bulldogs improved to 10-3 in league
play.
Amherst improved to 12-3 with a 64-47 victory over town rival Williamsville
South in a nonleague game as Shaquita Smith led the attack with 29 points. Rachel Schepart
had 14 points and six steals for the winners. Sara Marcus led South with 17 points.
In another nonleague game, Frontier rolled over Sweet Home, 70-45, despite 27
points by the Panthers' Bianco Smiley. Katie Russi led Frontier (9-6) with 22 points.
Bennett girls unbeaten
Kiara Beaver had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Bennett to a
39-34 victory over City Honors in the Canisius Cup. The Tigers (11-2, 10-0), who
remained unbeaten in league play, also got 11 steals and eight assists from Ashley Barlow.
Elsewhere in Canisius Cup play, Tashika Brewster narrowly missed a triple-double with 14
points, 11 assists and eight blocks in leading South Park to a 57-22 win over
Riverside. Lena Lee added 24 points and five steals in the win. ... CoCo Grasty had a
double-double with 27 points and 15 rebounds to lead East (11-3, 9-1) to a big win,
81-27, over McKinley in the Canisius Cup. Angel Nelson added 24 points and Loren Daniel
had 17 points and 15 rebounds in the win.
Alden wins rifle title
Andy Besch fired a 277 as perennial power Alden beat rival Clarence
1,352-1,322 to win the ECIC rifle title with a 16-0 record.
