The Eden girls basketball team set five goals before the start of the season. The

Raiders have accomplished all but one of them, and they inched a step closer toward achieving

the final one by breaking a long championship drought Thursday night.

Eden won its first division title in 22 years, beating visiting Holland, 65-44, in

ECIC IV play. Hannah Herc led the winners with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while twin sister

Hailee added 12 rebounds, 10 points and six steals for Eden (14-1, 11-0), the News' No. 10

Small School.

The Raiders came into the season wanting to win the two tournaments they entered (Hae Jude

in Silver Creek and Springville), beat Lackawanna (which they did twice), win the

division title and earn the right to play for a sectional title at Erie Community College.

ECC is the only goal left on Eden's list.

"It's been a great season," fourth-year coach Marisa Fallacaro said. "They started in the

offseason working and in some summer leagues and camps. They've had their goals set and

they've been determined all season long."

We have five goals set for the season. We've gotten four of them."

Bettina Jackubiec had 12 points and nine assists for the Raiders, ranked No. 10 in The

News' small school poll.

In ECIC I, Orchard Park gained a measure of revenge by beating the team that handed

the Quakers their first loss of the season two weeks ago. Noelle Poloncarz had 18 points,

while Taylor Swiatek added 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists as No. 6 Large School

Orchard Park beat No. 10 Clarence, 55-30. The Quakers avenged a 56-54 loss Jan. 21 at

Clarence (9-6, 6-5) with the win.

In a showdown between ranked small schools, defending Section VI Class B girls basketball

champion Olean pulled away from Allegany-Limestone, 72-53, in CCAA I.

Rachel Bantelman scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the co-No. 2-ranked

Huskies, who made the state semifinals last year. Grace Williamson added 17 points and nine

rebounds for the Huskies (12-2, 9-1), who enjoyed a 34-16 rebounding advantage. Lindsey

Stoddard led No. 4 Allegany-Limestone (11-3, 6-3) with 16 points.

In the Monsignor Martin Association, five players scored in double figures for

Nichols as the Vikings improved to 9-1 in the Monsignor Martin Association with a 74-63

win over Mount St. Mary.

Kylie Reinholz and Sloane Walton each scored 17 points for Nichols (12-4), while Meghan

Heldwein had 18 rebounds and 13 points.

City Honors swims to All-High title

City Honors won 13 of 18 events to capture its 11th straight All-High swimming

championship at Erie Community College's Flickinger Center Natatorium. Honors finished with

262 points, Hutch-Tech had 202.

For the girls, Emma Randall experienced victory four times in the meet for the Centaurs,

who won the regular season Syracuse Cup title. She won the backstroke and 200 freestyle and

was a member of the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay teams. Sara Rosenblatt won the 100

free, 50 butterfly and was a member of the 200 free relay team.

Francis Cunningham won the boys 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and was a member of

the winning 400 relay team for City Honors. Anthony Prentiss won the 50 free and the

backstroke. City Honors' boys medley relay team didn't win but the foursome of Prentiss, Ryan

Lepo, Cunningham and Anthony Solomon qualified for Monday's Section VI meet by posting a time

of 2:01.44.

Tricia Kent joins 700 club

Williamsville South sophomore Tricia Kent rolled a three-game 763 series to break

700 for the first time and help the Billies clinch a share of the ECIC II girls bowling title

with Sweet Home. South beat Williamsville East, 5-2, to finish 11-1. Kent, who

came into the match with a 201 average, rolled games of 238, 248 and 277.

She rolled 10 strikes in the final game, including six in a row to open it.

St. Joe's-Will North play to a tie

St. Joe's came up with a fine effort Thursday as it tied unbeaten Williamsville

North, 2-2, in Western New York Varsity Hockey Federation play.

Zach Klapt had a goal and an assist for the Marauders (13-8-2), while goalie Marc Mallare

made 23 saves. St. Joe's scored twice in 35 seconds in the final 1:55 of the first period to

take a 2-1 lead. Rich Pagliaroli started the blitz. Matt Bauman's goal with 14 seconds left in

the second period tied it for North, which received 16 saves from Parker Gahagen.

In another Fed game, Adam Titanic scored the game-winner for Sweet Home in a 4-3

overtime win over Amherst.

Marion sets scoring record

Crystle Marion broke the St. Mary's School for the Deaf record for points, while

teammate Sarah Flowers scored the game-winning basket with less than a minute left during St.

Mary's 48-47 win over New Life Christian in an IAC girls basketball game.

Marion finished with 20 points and now has 1,620 in her career, eclipsing the old mark of

1,616 set by Samantha Marguccio.
