Akron swimmmers shine
Akron set a league record in the 200-yard freestyle as the foursome of David
Adamczak, Mitch Bramley, Ben Schaefer and Peter Sowinski clocked a time of 1 minute, 31.19
seconds Tuesday at the Niagara-Orleans League individual championships. The old record of
1:31.77 was set by Royalton-Hartland in 1991. The same group also won the 200 medley
relay. Jason Beabout of Roy-Hart was a triple winner in the 200 and 500 freestyles, and the
200 individual medley.
City Honors swim is 11-0
Emma Randell, Fran Cunningham and Sara Rosenblatt won two individual events each and were
on a winning relay as City Honors finished the Syracuse Cup regular season undefeated
after beating Hutch-Tech, 125-82. Each team entered the meet 10-0. Torben Draweit of
Hutch-Tech won two events and was on the winning 200-yard medley relay.
The Centaurs extended their regular-season winning streak to 111 dual meets, a streak that
started in 2000. City Honors looks to win the Syracuse Cup for the 11th year in a row on
Thursday at the All-High meet at Erie Community College.
The Syracuse Cup will be represented at the upcoming Sectionals by City Honors swimmers
Cunningham in the 200 freestyle and its 200 free relay of Cunningham, Anthony Solomon, Anthony
Preotiss and Ryan Lepo.
Border Brawl tonight
The Lancaster wrestling team puts its ECIC I winning streak on the line tonight when
it hosts Clarence in the sixth Border Brawl starting at 6 p.m. The Redskins have won
the title every year since 1994-1995. Both teams enter the dual meet 7-0.
Clarence (20-0 overall) has won the Lockport, Ken-Ton and ECIC Tournaments as well
as the Vesper and Pioneer Duals.
The matchup is expected to be close throughout with both teams trying to avoid giving up
the big points.
Larson on a roll for NT
Brianna Larson continued her record-breaking season Tuesday night. The senior bowler from
North Tonawanda rolled a 258-258-257-773 breaking her own school record for high
series. She rolled 29 strikes in 36 attempts with seven spares.
It's not only the highest in the Niagara Frontier League this season for girls, it also
ties the boys high in the league, held by Nick Byers of NT two weeks ago. It's also the
highest score rolled by a girl this season in Western New York. Her WNY leading average is now
213.76 for 39 games.
