The Monsignor Martin Association will play its football championship games Thursday, but here's something that may interest those whose glory days are behind them.

A book detailing the history of MMA football which took three years to complete, was

written, researched and just self-published by Paul Hutzler of Cheektowaga.

The book will be available for the first time at Thursday's games at the Ralph Wilson

Stadium ticket window.

The 379-page, spiral-bound book details the history of the league from its inception in 1948

to 2008.

The book is dedicated to former Bishop Fallon athletics director, the late Carmen Battaglia,

and Dick Wojciechowski.

"These two gentlemen, more than anybody, urged me to record the league's history," said

Hutzler.

What the book lacks in design, it makes up for in content. A written summary of each season

is included, along with a list of final league standings and the top individual league

scorers. Newspaper articles are included to provide insight into all 61 seasons.

A yearly history of schools which have been closed is also part of the work. A record of

every game played plus a summary of each school's record against every opponent is listed.

Hutzler is Western New York's authority on the history of high school sports. He began

keeping records while he was a student at St. Joe's in 1951.

He keeps records statewide and locally for football, is responsible for the history pages in

the Manhattan Cup basketball program, and produces the Section VI cross country program. Last

year Hutzler released a book on the history of MMA boys and girls cross country.

The cost of the book is $35 or $15 for the compact disc version. Postage is an additional

$4.95. Send check or money order to Hutzler at 91 Randy Way, Cheektowaga, NY 14227.
