YORKSHIRE — The Section VI Class C soccer finals produced a pair of familiar winners at Pioneer on Saturday.

Second-seeded Frewsburg defeated No. 4 Holland, 2-0, in the girls final. The Bears captured their third sectional title in four seasons and avenged last year's championship game defeat at the hands of Holland.

"We've been working hard, seeing as it's our third year here," said senior captain Breana Currie, who scored the eventual game-winner with 24 minutes left in the first half. "We know what it takes to come and win."

In the boys final, Holland proved that seeds don't matter as the fourth-seeded Dutchmen beat No. 2 Silver Creek, 1-0, to win its fourth straight sectional title.

Frewsburg (16-2-1) will face the Rochester-area Section V champion in the Far West Regionals at 6 p.m. Saturday at Amherst High School, while Holland faces a Section V counterpart in regionals at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spencerport High School.

Frewsburg's return to the top survived a pair of good scoring opportunities by Holland (14-5) in the game's opening minutes, but the Bears took control after that. They pushed the ball into Holland territory and kept applying pressure until Currie had a chance directly in front of the goal midway through the first half. The ball escaped a pile of players and landed at Currie's feet, allowing her to stuff it past goalkeeper Rebecca Doster.

After making some halftime adjustments, Holland came out playing a far more aggressive game, controlling the ball early and often. Holland created several scoring opportunities, but couldn't find a way to finish.

Frewsburg effectively put the game out of reach with 7:37 left. On a bouncing ball in front of the net, Doster came out to challenge sophomore Emily Foy, who was around the net all day. Foy lobbed a header over Doster and raced by her to bury the ball in the goal and put her team up,

2-0.

Frewsburg coach Jerome Lee Yaw said he expected Holland to come out strong in the second half, so he encouraged his team to play its game and continue working hard.

"Do not think that you cannot get to a ball. Do not think that you cannot win that ball. You always have to believe that you can do it. Believe in yourselves, believe in your teammates, and we can get through it together," Lee Yaw said at the half.

Holland's boys once again experienced the thrill of victory in a sectional final and pretty much controlled play throughout even though the Dutchmen struggled to find the back of the net until Tom Wiskup's header with 1:55 left gave them a reward for their fine play.

"I honestly almost passed out [after the goal]," Wiskup said. "I had tunnel vision it was insane."

Holland outshot Silver Creek, 13-1, in a scoreless first half. The Dutchmen kept the ball in Silver Creek territory in the second half, rarely allowing the Knights to cross midfield.

Holland had three great chances in a row stopped by goalie Richie Bund with 33 minutes left. The Dutchmen never relented and finally broke through courtesy of Wiskup.

"It was frustrating [not being able to finish] because I know what my team can do and I know how much we can do it," he said. "We had so many good chances and so many opportunities but we just couldn't do it. We finally got one in and that's what counts."

Holland coach Rob Booker also found it frustrating not scoring after displaying such dominance throughout, but knew his team's desire would take them to the victory.

"Determination, heart and wanting to win," Booker said of his team's reasons for winning. "It was fun."
