North Tonawanda dominates 100th T-NT game

The 100th T-NT Classic was no contest.
Host North Tonawanda scored on every possession through the first three quarters of the
game and cruised to a 68-7 win over Tonawanda at the Lumberjacks Sports Complex in the 100th
meeting of cross-canal rivals.
A huge crowd filled both sets of extra bleachers that were brought in and the end zones
were full.
The Jacks (7-0), ranked third in The Buffalo News' large schools poll and fourth in the
state by the New York State Sportswriters Association in Class AA, matched the largest margin
of victory in the series, which officially began in 1904. NT won, 61-0, in 2008.
"It was a fun night for the kids," said North Tonawanda coach Eric Jantzi, who has won eight
of nine contests in his tenure against Tonawanda. "They look forward to it all year long and
set their sights on it. We got some younger kids ready. If we get some injuries the second
team is ready. They got some confidence in their ability to do things."
As a team North Tonawanda rushed for 410 yards while the Warriors were held to five first
downs and 119 yards.
NT's Devan Moultrie had five carries for 91 yards. Senior quarterback Mike Tuzzo scored on
two of his three rushing attempts. He also completed all three of his passes for 132 yards. On defense, linebacker Steve Kijowski had 11 tackles, including three for loss.
Lineman Zach Christopher had nine tackles, two for losses.
The Jacks opened a 20-0 lead in the first quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by Aaron Davis,
a 44-yard touchdown pass from Tuzzo to Darrik Bloomfield and an 8-yard run by Tuzzo.
The Warriors' lone highlight came in the second quarter on a 69-yard touchdown run by
sophomore Justin Bacon, who ran 17 times for 104 yards. The Lumberjacks, however, scored four
times before halftime to put the game out of reach. Tuzzo (46-yard run), Steve Kijowski
(2-yard run), Devan Moultrie (33-yard run) and Joe Medina (20-yard run) all scored.
Despite the lopsided score, Jantzi said it was a clean game with few penalties.
Tonawanda falls to 0-7.
NT leads the all-time series, 60-31-9. The Lumberjacks have taken nine straight games in
the rivalry, and 13 of the past 16.
That disparity is a big reason why rumors have circulated in the two communities that the
rivalry may not live on.
At halftime, legendary NT public address announcer Dick Grapes, whom the press box is named
after at the Lumberjacks Sports Complex, was honored for his more than 50 years with the team.
The Jacks (7-0) will host either Clarence or Frontier in the first round of the Class AA
playoffs next Friday. NT will have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. The Jacks
enter postseason as three-time champions of Class AA North. Last year they lost to Orchard
Park at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
