Cheektowaga and Depew are quite familiar with each other. The two football

teams scrimmaged each other several times during the course of the offseason at various

full-equipment camps.

On Friday night, the stakes were much higher in the battle between the second and third-

ranked teams in the Buffalo News' Small School poll and No. 2 Cheektowaga emerged victorious,

6-0, over the visiting Wildcats.

Julius Davis (119 yards rushing) scored on a 36-yard run in the second quarter for the

Warriors (5-0, 4-0), who can clinch the Class B North title next week with a win at

Albion.

Cheektowaga secured the win with 26 seconds left when middle linebacker Keith Bykowski (10

tackles, two for losses, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble) stopped a fourth-and-5 draw

play at the Warriors' 6 after a 3-yard gain Anthony Emmanuel (16 carries, 86 yards).

"We told them, this right now is the game for the division," Cheektowaga coach Scott Zipp

said. "They prepared all week knowing full well Depew was going to be a fight. ... The kids

worked their tails off. It was a well-played game by both teams. I give them all the credit in

the world. That was one of the best game's I've ever been a part of, definitely in the top

three."

The Warriors held Depew to 114 yards in offense. Cheektowaga forced the only turnover of

the game. Josh Wiechelt finished with nine tackles for the Wildcats.

Depew (4-1, 4-1) received a break with about 90 seconds left after taking over at midfield

after a bad snap on a punt attempt by the Warriors. But Cheektowaga's defense saved the day.

"It was a pretty physical game," Wildcats coach Dan McGrath said. "We battled it out at the

line of scrimmage. I think our kids are pretty disappointed. It's one of those games where the

offensive coordinator, me, could've called a better game. It's one of those you like to second

guess yourself but the kids played their hearts out. Maybe we'll meet again."

Williamsville North 26, Niagara Falls 25: North ended a long losing streak last week

with a game-ending goal-line stand against Ken West. The Spartans' defense came up huge Friday

clinching just their second playoff berth in program history. North quarterback Zack Barrett
