The ECIC defeated the NFL, 12-8, to win the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer ECIC/NFL Boys

Saturday's schedule included five games. Williamsville North beat Lew-Port, 4-0, as Matt

Campana had a hat trick. Williamsville East and Niagara-Wheatfield tied, 1-1. Josh Binfield

scored for the Flames in the first half while Jeff Calkins answered for the Falcons in the

second half. North Tonawanda edged Sweet Home, 2-1, on a goal by Greg Hoffman with 12 minutes

left. Hamburg and Kenmore West played to a 2-2 tie. Williamsville South beat Niagara Falls,

3-0, led by Zack Schwartz's two goals and Stephan Crawford's shutout.

The event was a fundraiser to honor of longtime official Tom Mingle, who died of cancer on

Sept. 5, 2008. The sportsmanship award, awarded by the officials, went to junior midfielder

Connor Orrico of Sweet Home.

breakaway that was created off a great pass by Scott Panullo. Hunter Hein needed to make just

two saves for the shutout.

David Mateloen scored the game's lone goal as Akron beat Byron-Bergen, 1-0, to win the

Byron-Bergen tournament for the third year in a row. Sam Torrelli earned the shutout. "It was

a very physical game with a lot fouls. It's a great way to start the season," said Akron coach

Chuck Pfohl."

Nichols beat Nardin, 3-1, to win the Clarence Tournament for the second time in three

years. Defender Kelsey Ryan scored on a shot from 30 yards out. Bri Smith followed with a goal

on penalty kick and the score held until midway through the second half. Nichols added its

third goal on Smith's second goal of the game on an assist from a hustling Claire Peltan.

Immaculata spikes Lockport title

Immaculata won the Lockport girls volleyball tournament by beating the host Lions in three

games, 19-25, 25-21, 25-19.

Sarah Horvath had 18 kills. Lindsey Nowak added six blocks. Immaculata, a first-time
