FORT ERIE, Ont. – Julie Murphy won her first Women’s Buffalo District Golf Association championship since 2010, clinching the title Friday with a final-round 83 for a two-day total of 161 at Bridgewater Country Club.

The golfer affiliated with Brookfield Country Club beat Ann Luhr of Cherry Hill by three shots to win her second overall WBDGA crown. Murphy, a past area women’s amateur player of the year who recently guided the Williamsville South softball team to a state title, opened the two-day event with a 78.

“It’s been awhile,” Murphy said. “There are a lot of great golfers from Buffalo. It’s nice to put a couple good rounds together. My mind frame was just one hole at a time. ... It was exciting to put it all together.”

Murphy, who finished as runner-up in this event the last two years to current University of Michigan standout Cat Peters, earned day-one medalist honors for her round on Thursday.

Victoria Parker (Orchard Park CC) took third with a 166.

A match of cards resulted in Kathy Hunt of Brookfield CC taking fourth place, while Kathy Hooper of Fox Valley CC wound up in fifth place. Hooper, however, did win the seniors (age 60 and over) title.
