Michael VanDerLaan of Southbury, Conn., remains in the lead heading into today’s final round of the American Junior Golf Association New Era Championship at River Oaks Golf Club on Grand Island.

VanDerLaan shot an even-par 72 Wednesday and stands at 3-under 141 through two days.

East Amherst’s Ben Reichert, a first-round co-leader after a 3-under 69, stands three shots back in second place after a 3-over 75 Wednesday.

In the girls division, Katie Kim of Riverwoods, Ill., a Boston College commit, has a three-shot lead after firing a second-round 1-under 71. She stands at 1-over 145.

Three locals are within eight shots of the lead, with Maren Cipolla of Lewiston alone in second place with a 4-over 148 after a second-round 75. Lancaster’s Chelsea Dantonio is tied for fourth at 151 after a second-round 75. First-round leader Sara Riso of Hamburg followed up a 1-under 71 with an 82 on Wednesday and stands tied for sixth.

The tournament wraps up today.

In the New York State Golf Association Women’s Amateur on Wednesday in Poughkeepsie, Niagara freshman-to-be Emily Doyle holds a share of the lead through two rounds at the Dutchess Golf Club.

Doyle shot a 5-over 76 and stands at 8-over 150 with Christine Schmitt of Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford entering today’s final round. Crag Burn’s Kit Creighton is two shots back in a three-way tie for third, following up an opening 75 with a 77.

In the Women’s Mid-Amateur, Gowanda Country Club’s Kim Kaul holds a one-shot lead over Nancy Kroll of Schnectady. Kaul shot an 81 Wednesday and stands at 18-over for the championship.
