Who’s who: The seven-team B North Division consists of the Albion Purple Eagles, Barker/Roy-Hart Raiders, Bennett Tigers, Burgard Bulldogs, Lew-Port Lancers, Medina Mustangs and Newfane Panthers.

The six-team B Central Division consists of the Alden Bulldogs, Amherst Tigers, Cheektowaga Warriors, Depew Wildcats, Maryvale Flyers and Tonawanda Warriors.

The seven-team B South Division consists of the Dunkirk Marauders, East Aurora Blue Devils, Eden Raiders, Fredonia Hillbillies, Olean Huskies, Pioneer Panthers and Springville Griffins.

This year’s alignment shift: Class B increases by three schools and expands from two divisions to three. Newfane moves up from C North to B North; Tonawanda moves up from C Central to B Central; Fredonia moves up from C South to B South.

Last year’s champion: Depew, which had lost to Alden seven straight times including once in the regular season, beat the Bulldogs, 28-26, after stopping a two-point conversion with 1:32 left in the B final. The Wildcats won their second Section VI title and went on to the state semifinals for the first time.

Week One must-see games: Can’t get much better than this: Depew is at Alden Friday night at 7 in one of the best opening night kickoffs. There are seven other league games on the weekend, as well as two nice nonleaguers at 7 Friday when Maryvale hosts rival and two-time defending Class C champion Cleveland Hill and the brother-vs.-brother coaching matchup as Bennett and Steve McDuffie hosts Williamsville East and Chris McDuffie at Robert E. Rich All High Stadium.
