Dunkirk Marauders (0-8)
Coach: Mike Sarratori, first season
Home field: Karl Hoeppner Field
Program founded: 1901
Outlook: The Marauders will build around their returning linemen: Kyle Matteson, Kevin Lidlow and Nick Jones. Last year’s QB, Gage Austin, is out for the season after tearing his ACL in an offeseason workout. Last year’s JV QB, Devaunte Lockett, is among the candidates to replace him. FB/DE Tristen Peck is a strong, aggressive player. WR/DB Victor Echevarria has good hands and is a hard worker. Dunkirk had just 23 players report on the first day of practice. “We don’t have many kids, but the ones we do have are working hard. We’ll be all right,” said Sarratori. This will be Sarratori’s second stint as coach; his first was from 1990-1998. Dunkirk hasn’t had a winning season since 1994-1995.

East Aurora Blue Devils (3-6)
Coach: Tim Wade, 11th season
Home field: Blue Devils Stadium
Program founded: circa 1922
Outlook: Wade has more players than he’s ever had (40) ready to go. Three years ago they were playing with 19. Holland adds 11. Returning to the backfield are QB Connor Allan and RB Max Heimburg. Other skill players are WR Mike Coatsworth and Tommy Volpe. Nick Potter looks to have another big season at TE/LB. A pair of linemen return: Tyler Hall and Ben Nemec. “We have a little work to do on our line, but we have some quality kids to surround them with,” Wade said.

Eden Raiders (5-4)
Coach: Chuck Tilley, sixth season
Home field: William Bos Field
Program founded: circa 1930
Outlook: Remember the name Ryan Shaw. At a legit 6-8, 310, he’s grown 5 inches and added 50 pounds from last season. Tilley said his size alone will draw the attention of college coaches, but Shaw has the technique and speed to go with it. “He’s really going to be a dominant force,” said Tilley. Adding to the athletic front is OL/DL Eamon Crowley. The running duties will be shared between five backs with FB Anthony Cummings leading the way. TE/LB Jacob Ehrig went from 190 to 225 and will be a tough matchup on both sides of the ball. Sophomores to watch are QB Andy Bialy and RB/FS Owen Krouse. North Collins adds two to the varsity, bringing the total to 24, five on the JV, saving the program, and nine on modified.

Fredonia Hillbillies (9-1)
Coach: Mike Marshall, first season
Home field: Orange Bowl
Program founded: 1901
Outlook: Class C finalists a year ago return RB Matt McCarthy, who averaged around 12 yards per carry last year. He holds the school record for most TDs in a season. Cam Voss is a big target (6-3) at WR. There is experience on the OL with Steve Mignoli, John Pietrkiewicz and Jake Rinus. The team has good depth at LB leading with Mignoli.

Olean Huskies (5-4)
Coach: Mike Kane, 24th season
Home field: Bradner Stadium
Program founded: 1893
Outlook: Senior TE/LB Chuckie Martin moves to QB, where he’ll compete for the job with junior North Carolina transfer Elijah Ramadhan. Both can play a variety of positions. Kane described Ramadhan as a good athlete, adding that he coached his father, T.J. Senior RB/LB Jaryd Plaud is a three-year starter at LB and shared time in the backfield last year with two others. He runs on the Huskies’ 4x100 relay during track season. RB/SS Julian Roulo injured his shoulder in last year’s opener and played only the last two games. After a year’s absence because of scheduling conflicts, rival Bradford is back on the slate.

Pioneer Panthers (5-4)
Coach: Jim Duprey, 13th season
Home field: Pioneer Turf Stadium
Program founded: 1971
Outlook: The Panthers have an experienced backfield along with nine of 11 starters back on defense. RB Tyler Mummery and DL Foster Dell are returning league all-stars. Pioneer returns its top two rushers. Mummery was the team leader with 954 yards while Kris Riordan added 649 yards and was tied for the team lead in TDs with seven. Sr. QB Bryce Little will be out for the season after tearing his ACL playing basketball in June. JV QB Austin Kossow has looked good in the seven-on-sevens and will take over. “It’s a big blow to the team, but it’s harder for Bryce. I feel sick to my stomach for him,” said Duprey.

Springville Griffins (4-5)
Coach: Rob Valenti, first full season
Home field: Pop Warner Field
Program founded: 1898
Outlook: There’s a lot of excitement in Springville for the upcoming season. One reason is the return of last year’s defensive MVP, Pat O’Brien. The 6-1, 235 all-league LB used his 4.7 speed to record 63 tackles. “He’s one of those all-in type of kids,” said Valenti. Sr. QB Devin White-Kearns brings nine games of experience after last year’s scheduled starter was injured before the opener. Sr. LB Devin Pazzuti is tough with good speed. Bryce Stedman is a three-year starter at center. Josh Ball and Pat Hannon are junior linemen who started last year as sophomores. Former NT coach and 1987 Springville graduate Eric Jantzi joins the coaching staff.
