Hamburg Bulldogs (2-7)
Coach: Pat Cauley, first season
Home field: Howe Field
Program founded: 1915
Outlook: The Bulldogs look to “earn” this year’s Class A South title. Senior OL/DL Jeremiah Bill is a four-year player. TE/DE Griffin Ryan looks to make a big contribution. Hamburg has senior leadership at QB in Colin Daly. A junior lineman Joe DeGrood should be a pivotal player up front. This offseason the Bulldogs worked with a strength coach, hosted its own camp and participated in the ECC camp. Coach Cauley, also the school’s AD, had spent five years as defensive coordinator before getting the head job.

Home field: No home field
Program founded: 1954
Outlook: The Engineers return RB Roman West, who gained 950 yards ago and is a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield. WRs are Rayshawn McMillan and Marci Ford, who ran a 4.5/40 at the H.S.P.D. camp. Defensively, the back seven are led by captain of the secondary, safety Donte Gibson. The line returns two, center Andrew Woods and guard Joe Kennedy. Tipping the scales at 340 pounds is LG/LT Stedman Young. The Engineers move from AA North to A South.

Iroquois Chiefs (7-2)
Coach: Keith Marshall, third season
Home field: Milt Latimer Field
Program founded: 1955
Outlook: Returning starters are in short supply for the Chiefs. A pair of linemen, Nick Nosbisch and Zach Emer, are the Chiefs’ only returning players on offense. The two starters back on defense are LB Coyote Sokolski and CB Matt Knab. “We lost a lot of guys from a 7-2 team that was very senior laden. But the new guys have worked hard and we have one of the toughest tests in the state in Week One” – against Sweet Home – “so we’ll learn quickly,” said Marshall. Senior Josh Piesczynski will likely play QB.

Lake Shore Eagles (1-8)
Coach: Drew Takacs, first season
Home field: No name
Program founded: 1950
Outlook: The Eagles’ offense is likely to include as many as five sophomores. Two of them are brothers QB/CB Colin Fuitko and TE/CB Cory Fuitko. Sophomore Jake Bomberski, whose father was a FB at UB, will play FB. QB Parker Addison started last year as a sophomore. Takacs said Addison went to several QB camps which helped him with his accuracy and he has more control of the long ball.
A player to watch is senior RG/LB Josh Mullet, who is 5-11, 210. “I call him my ram, he just rams through things, he’s a machine,” said Takacs. Sharing the carries will be Phil Wigdor, Jovanni Klimowitz and Steve Fessel.

Coach: Tim Delaney, sixth season
Home field: No home field
Program founded: 1915
Outlook: QB Tyler Mascio arrives after earning All-WNY honorable mention while quarterbacking Canisius’ undefeated campaign. He left Canisius for Lake Shore last year and transferred to South Park this summer. Junior WR/DB Antonio Leonard is “light years” ahead of where he was at the end of last season, Delaney said. He caught 25 passes last year. Leonard and fellow WR Nick Mills did a lot of 7-on-7s and hit the weight room. Larion Watkins returns for his third year at TB and Middle College student T.J. Scott will get some carries as well. The Burgess twins, William and Willquan, transferred from I-Prep and will both start at LB. Brian Slisz, Myles Martin and Randell Bish lead an experienced line.

West Seneca East Trojans (9-1)
Coach: Jim Maurino, 11th season
Home field: Trojan Field
Program founded: 1969
Outlook: Last year’s Class A finalists return five on both sides of the ball, including lineman Brandon Reilly. Senior QB/DE Devin Lindner gets his chance to start. “He’s a captain and a character guy and he’s going to look to fill those shoes for us,” said Maurino. The Trojans will also lean on RB/WR Mike Waterman very heavily. Brandon Day was a 2,000-yard rusher on the 6-1-1 JV team last year and joins Lindner as track standouts in the spring. A real strength will be East’s O-line boasts a trio of three-year starters.
