Sam Kerr scored the first goal in the 38th minute and assisted on a tally by Jasmyne Spencer in the first minute of first-half stoppage time and the Western New York Flash went on to a 2-1 victory over FC Kansas City Wednesday night at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester. Morgan Marlborough scored in the 57th minute for Kansas City 2-3-1.

Kerr’s goal came on a header into the left corner. Then in stoppage time she lifted the ball downfield for Spencer in the 46th minute of the first half and she calmly drove it into the lower part of the net.

It was the first home win for the Flash 2-1-1, who played without Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd, Sonia Bermudez and Vicky Solada, who were away for games with their national teams.

Next game for the Flash will be 3 p.m. Sunday against Sky Blue FC of New Jersey at Sahlen’s Stadium.
