The University at Buffalo track team had plenty to show after the first day of the Florida Relays as throwers Evan Palmer and Jonathan Jones won their events and two school records fell.
Palmer won the hammer throw in a school record 208-6, defeating the second place finisher by more than 6 feet.
Jones picked up his first win of the season in the discus as he racked up a season-best throw of 169-10. Jones won by more than a foot.
On the track for the Bulls, Donna Jeanty placed seventh in the 400 in a school record 58.13.
BASEBALL: Niagara University hosts Quinnipiac in the home opener today at 3 p.m. at Bobo Field.
Niagara is coming off a win over Monmouth last weekend to go .500 over its last six games with a record of 3-3.
Taylor Hackett has a team-best .500 batting average with a pair of doubles. Greg Rodgers has a team-leading three RBIs and a .364 average. Pitcher Jordan Schwartz leads the MAAC with 47 strikeouts
WOMEN’S TENNIS: The University at Buffalo defeated Miami (Ohio) for the first time since the 2008 MAC Tournament, 5-2, at the Miller Tennis Center.
The Bulls improve to 12-3 on the season and 3-1 in the conference.
UB won two of the three doubles matches while Tanvi Shah, Margarita Kotok, Anamaria Candanoza and Marta Stoyanova won at singles.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE: St. Bonaventure, leading 6-5 at halftime, dropped an 11-9 decision to George Mason in its Atlantic 10 Conference opener at Alfred University.
LeighAnn Stauffer scored three times in the first half to help stake the Bonnies to the lead.
She then made it 7-5 in favor of St. Bonaventure just over three minutes into the second half.
George Mason soon tied it, and Alexa McGovern connected with the go-ahead-winner with 15:56 remaining.
