The University at Buffalo baseball team gave up an inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning and lost at Kent State, 7-4.
The Bulls were clinging to a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when the Flashes tied the game with a double and broke it open with Justin Wahler’s home run to dead center which gave his team a 5-2 lead.
Kent State won the three-game Mid-American Conference series, 2-1. Mike Burke took the loss for UB (8-6 MAC). He was solid through the first five innings before breaking down in the sixth. He was charged with all seven runs. Burke struck out nine and walked just one.
The Bulls return home for their next five game. They will host Canisius on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Amherst Aububon Field at 2 p.m.
St. Bonaventure fell behind, 9-0, after five innings on the way to a 14-8 loss to visiting Fordham. The Rams swept the three-game series.
The Bonnies scored six runs in the sixth to cut into the lead. Tyler Bell had the big hit, a bases-clearing triple. Justin Brozick kept it going with a RBI double and Brad Gresock had an RBI single
The Bonnies closed to within 10-8 after eight innings, but Fordham added to their lead with four runs in the ninth.
Tyler Bell drove in three runs with two hits for the Bonnies (8-23). Connor Grey (1-6) took the loss.
The Bonnies travel to Bucknell for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Canisius gave up four runs in the top of the seventh inning in an 8-4 nonconference loss to Indiana State at the Demske Sports Complex. The Griffs (22-14) had won the first two games of the series.
The loss was the first of the season for Canisius when leading after six innings. Senior Jesse Kelso singled in the first inning reaching base for the 19th consecutive game.
SOFTBALL: UB left 11 on base in a 6-2 loss to Toledo in eight innings in its final home game. Tori Speckman took up the loss, going the distance. The Bulls got seven hits from seven different players, including extra-base hits from Jessica Taylor and Savanna Norcio.
